Dr. Colleen Casey, a reproductive endocrinologist from the Center for Reproductive Medicine, presentation on fertility preservation for oncology patients for January's AHCI Grand Rounds. She discusses the reproductive impacts of chemotherapy and radiation, the in-vitro fertilization (IVF) process, fertility preservation options, and current data on success rates. Dr. Casey addresses questions about patient readiness, decision-making, and ways oncology teams can better prepare patients for fertility consultations.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the possible impact of oncologic treatment on patient's fertility.
  2. Identify oncology patients who would be good candidates for counseling on fertility preservation options.
  3. Document appropriate timing for recommending fertility preservation offerings.
  4. Explain the effects of chemotherapy and radiation on patient fertility and fertility preservation options.
