Overview

The Allina Health Cancer Institute plans each year this one-day Breast Health Conference with specialists from multiple fields presenting information about current breast health and the care of patients. Breast cancer represents a complicated family of diseases for which detection, diagnosis, and multimodal management strategies are continually evolving.

Our 2026 planning committee collaborated to provide deeper knowledge and bring together experts to discuss oncology nurse navigation, genetics, radiation therapy, breast reconstruction with lumpectomy, physiotherapy, imaging of the reconstructed breast, AI and breast cancer, provider conversation, tattooing after breast cancer, along with panel discussions and Q&A.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify three essential elements of the Oncology Nurse Navigator role.
  2. Review the genetic contributions to overall breast cancer risk and how this information can guide cancer screening and management.
  3. Summarize various treatment fractionations and field alterations available in modern times.
  4. Discuss local flaps available for reconstruction and also discuss timing of reconstruction and its impact on options available.
  5. Identify 3 common functional sequelae of breast cancer treatment.
  6. Discuss the imaging manifestations that may be observed in the postsurgical and reconstructed breast after surgical treatment of breast cancer.
  7. Discuss the available AI algorithms as they pertain to breast imaging and potential upcoming advances.
  8. Develop the skills needed to deliver more humanized, person-centered care.
  9. Express the intersection of art, identity and healing with mastectomy tattoos.
